Questions have never risen about Jackson's ability on the field. Instead, it was his perceived off-field demeanor, actions and contract comments that appeared to bristle Chip Kelly and get the receiver cut from the Philadelphia Eagles.
Jackson's new teammates, however, seem to have no qualms about adding the dynamic playmaker to their locker room, regardless of his prima donna reputation.
"He's the right kind of guy we need in our locker room," Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall told USA Today in a text message. "Fierce competitor and player, but great guy and humble guy that wants nothing more then to show people the real him. And there's no better place then in the nation's Capitol.''
Hall famously has gotten into tiffs on the field with Jackson. However, he, along with Pierre Garcon, were among those who wooed the receiver to D.C.
"DeSean makes us a better football team," new coach Jay Gruden said, focusing on the receiver's on-field play in a text message to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport. "When you get a chance to land a player of his caliber, you have to act. Bruce and Dan did that. Lets go!"
The addition of Jackson also had quarterback Robert Griffin III smiling from ear to ear.
"Very exciting player. Determined to show he is the best and hungry to win. My kinda guy," Griffin told ESPN's Britt McHenry about his new target.
That praise wasn't as exclamatory as the text Griffin sent to NFL Media's Jeff Darlington:
