Cleveland Browns running back Peyton Hillis is a finalist for "Madden NFL 12" cover honors after moving past Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers in online voting by fans.
Hillis, who will square off with Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick for the right to grace the famed video game's cover, has knocked off some heady company, including Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice, Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan and Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles. But beating the reigning Super Bowl MVP? That's quite an accomplishment, even if Packers fans took a dive to keep Rodgers away from the dreaded "Madden" cover curse.
With that in mind, we look at some of the weirdest upsets in NFL history.
Also considered: The Detroit Lions drafting wide receiver Calvin Johnson in 2007. Hey look, Matt Millen finally got one right. It just proves that if you try something long enough, you'll eventually nail it.
The Buffalo Bills hiring Chan Gailey last year. Seriously, how do you explain Chan Gailey being a head coach ... again?
And without further ado ...
6. Browns win a trade
The Browns haven't had much to celebrate since returning to the NFL in 1999, but they did get over on the Denver Broncos by acquiring Hillis in exchange for quarterback Brady Quinn. Nobody would blame Cleveland if the city hung a banner in the stadium commemorating this deal.
5. Seahawks' lime-green uniform tops
It's befuddling that the NFL has a uniform czar, and he allowed Seattle to take the field in this getup. Moreover, how is it possible that all of the former AFL teams had greater uniforms and didn't switch to these on a full-time basis? (Other than you, Denver.) Same goes for the Philadelphia Eagles' green and the Chicago Bears' throwback from 2010.
4. Michael Strahan lands a sitcom
Strahan was amusing as an NFL player, I guess. But who watched those Right Guard commercials and said, "Give this guy a sitcom, stat!" Didn't we learn enough from the Geico cavemen? But if you want some winning TV shows starring NFL personalities, check out these.
3. Trent Dilfer has more Super Bowl rings than Dan Marino
Does this seem fair to anybody? If Dilfer and Marino ever have an argument at lunch, on the golf course or anywhere, Dilfer has the ultimate putdown by flashing his Super Bowl ring. All Marino has is a cameo in "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective." That and being a better quarterback.
2. We are still here
I'm not sure where you stand on the whole Mayan calendar thing. But if you asked fans in Los Angeles and Cleveland if they thought the world would survive after Georgia Frontiere and Art Modell won back-to-back Super Bowls in the 1999 and 2000 seasons, well, let's just say we were stocking up on canned goods and bottled water.
1. Jeff Garcia marries Carmella DeCesare
Garcia had a rather forgettable stint as the Browns' quarterback in 2004, but he did manage to woo a Playboy playmate during his time. And that's saying something, because not only did he struggle on the field, he doesn't exactly look like Hugh Jackman, either. Truly, the biggest upset in NFL history.
