Ingram released by Saints after LB's stint on PUP list

The New Orleans Saints released linebacker Clint Ingram, who became eligible this week to return from the physically unable to perform list, *The Times-Picayune* reported Wednesday.

Ingram, 27, has been sidelined by a knee injury since he signed a one-year deal with the Saints in May. The fifth-year pro sustained the injury while with the Jacksonville Jaguars and had surgery in April.

The team offered no explanation for Ingram's release, but it's possible he wasn't able to pass a physical.

Saints safety Darren Sharper also is eligible to return from the PUP list this week. He was expected to join the team Wednesday when they hold their first practice of the week. But the Saints have a three-week window to decide whether or not to add him to the active roster.
