Injury roundup: Garrett hopeful Romo can play Sunday

Jason Garrett is optimistic that Tony Romo will play Week 10 when the Dallas Cowboys face the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.

"Hopefully he just progresses," Garrett said adding the team would take it day by day. "He's gotten better and better every day since the injury, and hopefully he'll feel better from a pain standpoint, and hopefully that'll positively reflect his ability to move around, get some stiffness out of there.

"And we got a couple days until we practice, so hopefully he'll handle the flight well, get over there, blood will be flowing through his body, he'll feel good and we'll get to work."

Romo missed Sunday's loss to the Arizona Cardinals with fractures in a small bone (transverse process) in his back. Brandon Weeden didn't perform well in the loss, making the urgency for Romo's return greater this week as Dallas fights to remain in playoff position.

Jerry Jones told NFL Media's Desmond Purnell on Sunday that Romo would fly to London with the team and the owner was hopeful that the star quarterback could return and play effectively after sitting just one week.

Here are some of the additional injuries we're tracking on this Week 10 Monday:

  1. Eagles coach Chip Kelly confirmed to reporters that there is a "crack" in Nick Foles' clavicle and said the quarterback was headed for an MRI on Monday. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that Foles is likely to miss at least a month.
  1. Rapoport reported Monday that Texans running back Arian Foster isn't expected to miss any time, per a source informed of the injury. He was told he just needs rest and he should be back after the bye. Rapoport added that Foster did not undergo additional tests Monday, an indication of how minor the injury is.
  1. Calvin Johnson (ankle) and Reggie Bush (ankle) practiced Monday, as did Kyle Van Noy. Megatron hasn't played since Week 5, while Bush last played in Week 8. Van Noy, the team's second-round pick in this year's draft, has yet to play after suffering a sports hernia in the preseason.
  1. The Jaguars placed cornerback Will Blackmonon injured reserve after the defensive back broke his index finger in Week 8 and subsequently underwent surgery last week. The team signed linebacker Khairi Fortt to fill the open roster spot.

Rapoport also reported Miami running back Lamar Miller is day-to-day with an AC sprain, per a source who has spoken to Miller.

  1. Cowboys defensive tackle Tyrone Crawford suffered a sprained MCL on Sunday, Rapoport reported, per a source who has spoken to the player. Crawford is undergoing tests to determine the severity of the injury.
  1. Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier's twisted ankle isn't a serious injury, Rapoport reported, according to a person who has spoken to the Steelers' rookie.
  1. Rapoport reported Broncos linebacker Nate Irving suffered a sprained MCL, per a source close to the player. The injury isn't considered to be season-ending.
  1. Bears coach Marc Trestman said Monday that Darryl Sharpton is week-to-week with a hamstring injury.
  1. Redskins running back Silas Redd underwent an MRI on his back after the team's bus accident prior to their loss to the Vikings on Sunday. The examination showed no structural damage, coach Jay Gruden said.
  1. Packers coach Mike McCarthy said at a Monday news conference that Aaron Rodgers, Sam Shields and Morgan Burnett all practiced Monday and "looked good."
  1. Pete Carroll said Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner (toe) is "improving" and ahead of schedule but won't be ready this week. Max Unger (foot) and Jordan Hill (ankle), however, could return.
  1. Browns tight end Jordan Cameron and wideout Andrew Hawkins did not practice Monday, per ESPN. Coach Mike Pettinesaid he doesn't know if Cameron (concussion) will be able to play Thursday against the Bengals.
