The bye week wasn't enough for James Starks.
The Green Bay Packers running back sat out Wednesday's practice with a knee injury and won't see the field for a "couple of weeks," coach Mike McCarthy told reporters Wednesday, per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Starks sprained his knee in a Week 3 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals and hasn't practiced since. Coming out of their break, the Packers will use a combination of Eddie Lacy, Johnathan Franklin and John Kuhn in Sunday's NFC North game against the Detroit Lions.
Based off McCarthy's time frame, we wouldn't expect Starks to play until Green Bay's Oct. 20 tilt with the Cleveland Browns.
Here's the rest of Wednesday's injury news:
» On defense for the Packers, pass rusher Clay Matthews was limited with a hamstring injury. "I think Clay is getting better," McCarthy said. "Made a lot of progress since coming off Cincinnati. Hopeful he'll do more tomorrow."
» On the bright side for Green Bay, tight end Jermichael Finley practiced fully for the first time since suffering a concussion in Week 3.
»Oakland Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor practiced fully ahead of Sunday night's meeting with the San Diego Chargers. Pryor hasn't played since suffering a concussion against the Denver Broncos in Week 3. In addition, it appears Matt Flynn has lost the No. 2 job to rookie Matt McGloin.
» Also for the Raiders: Running back Darren McFadden (hamstring) was not on the field for Wednesday's workout, but offensive tackle Menelik Watson practiced for the first time since undergoing knee surgery before the start of the season.
»Titans receiver Kenny Britt rejoined his teammates at practice after being inactive for Tennessee's win over the New York Jets on Sunday with a rib injury, according to Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean.
»Broncos linebacker Danny Trevathan injured his knee in Wednesday's session and was carted off the field. An MRI exam on Trevathan's knee was negative. Denver will miss Trevathan's stout play against the run if he isn't ready for the Dallas Cowboysin Week 5.
»Cowboys defensive end George Selvie suffered a concussion in Sunday's loss to the Chargers and didn't practice Wednesday. But the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Charean Williams reported on NFL Network's "Around the League Primetime" that Selvie "is going to play" against the Broncos. He's been an impact player this season and made Dan Hanzus' list of 10 surprising players.
»Patriots receiver Danny Amendola was "running well" at practice after missing the past three games with a groin injury, per ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss. It feels like ages since Amendola was part of this offense, but there's hope he'll materialize Sunday against the Bengals. Tight end Rob Gronkowski also participated Wednesday.
» The Jets have Chris Ivory back in the fold after the running back was inactive against the Titans with -- you guessed it -- a hamstring injury. Ivory has struggled to settle into New York's backfield, and we don't expect him to take carries away from Bilal Powell until the team is convinced he's fully healthy.
» At receiver, Gang Green won't have Santonio Holmes for at least two weeks, per NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport. Coach Rex Ryan, however, wouldn't rule out the concussed Stephen Hill for Monday night's tilt against the Falcons.
» Fresh off his alleged party-bus fray with Sweet Pea, "NFL AM" darling Jacoby Jones returned to Ravens practice Wednesday for the first time since spraining his MCL in the opener. Jacoby's return coincided with rookie receiver Marlon Brown missing the session with a hamstring injury.
» The Associated Press reported Wednesday that Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles missed practice because of blisters on his feet. Coach Andy Reid doesn't expect Charles to miss Sunday's meeting with Tennessee, and neither do we.
»Buffalo Bills running back C.J. Spiller (ankle) was limited in practice Wednesday and is listed as questionable for Thursday's game against the Browns.
»Colts running back Ahmad Bradshaw was sidelined Wednesday with the neck injury that kept him out of Week 4's win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. We'll keep an eye on that situation -- and all the injuries -- as we rage on toward Week 5.
