Last week, we told you about Arizona Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt calling out individual players at a team meeting. There's a very strong chance that veteran tight end Todd Heap was in Whisenhunt's crosshairs.
Kent Somers passes along a story Tuesday of Whisenhunt speaking to Heap for 10 to 15 minutes during the portion of Cardinals practice the media was watching. This is an unusual occurrence, the type of thing a coach does to send a message. It's the type of meeting that usually takes place behind closed doors, Somers points out.
Somers also notes that Heap was the only logical target for Whisenhunt's rant to his team about injured players not getting back on the field. There simply weren't any other options.
When Heap hurt his knee in Week 2, Whisenhunt said he believed Heap could return the following week. Heap hasn't been back.
"I'm not going to talk about a player and his injury," Whisenhunt said Wednesday.
"I'm not going to talk it about, either," Heap said.
Heap's signing in Arizona hasn't worked out. He has just 32 catches since joining the Cardinals last year. Frustrating is mounting in Arizona after five consecutive losses.
