It might be too little, too late.
The Arizona Cardinals are shopping Williams around the league ahead of the roster-cut deadline, Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com reported Sunday.
In other words, the organization has soured on Williams regardless of the outcome of Rashard Mendenhall's MRI results.
Cardinals coach Bruce Ariansraved about Williams' potential in January. That confidence evaporated when Williams' surgically repaired knee flared up in training camp, preventing Arians from properly evaluating the No. 38 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.
Williams has connections to Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt and New York Jets senior director of football administration Rod Graves. It's fair to wonder if Williams' assorted injuries have diminished his stock in their eyes as well.
If Williams is truly persona non grata in the desert, the Cardinals likely would go with a committee of Alfonso Smith and rookies Stepfan Taylor and Andre Ellington behind Mendenhall.
