Jacoby Jones now Steelers' third-string punt returner

The Pittsburgh Steelers demoted Jacoby Jones, taking away his return duties.

On Tuesday, the team's updated depth chart listed Jones as the backup kick returner and third-string punt returner.

(Who knew third-string punt returner was a thing? Where do we sign up for that gig?)

Markus Wheaton takes over Jones' spot atop the kick returner depth chart and as the backup punt returner to Antonio Brown.

"I think the depth chart clearly reflects that he's a backup this week," coach Mike Tomlin told reporters Tuesday. "We'll proceed with that in mind as we prepare. We'll get Markus Wheaton ready to return kicks and Antonio Brown and Markus Wheaton as punt returners and we'll see where that takes us."

Jones was benched in Sunday night's blowout win over the Indianapolis Colts after he fumbled twice in the first half.

The demotion could be a prelude to the Steelers jettisoning Jones. The once-dynamic kick returner has been abysmal this season. The San Diego Chargers previously cut him after five games averaging -0.8 punt return yards.
