Fresh off a thrilling win over the rival Giants on Sunday, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones announced that the team is adding a notable name to its pass rush.
Dallas is signing three-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney, the owner/president/general manager told an imposing gaggle of reporters on Sunday. It's a one-year deal for $3.5 million, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported.
The Clowney signing comes four days after he visited the team facility and was seen watching practice. His addition to Dallas' pass rush also comes over two weeks after the Cowboys traded away Micah Parsons, who had been the defense's top edge talent for the last four years.
Clowney will now be asked to fill, in part, Parsons' cleats.
On 10 days rest, Dallas' pass rush fared OK against New York, sacking Russell Wilson twice. One of those QB takedowns came from Kenny Clark, who was acquired in the Parsons trade. But Wilson also threw for a career-high 450 yards and three TD passes against Dallas.
Clowney, 32, is entering his 12th season in the NFL. He spent the 2024 campaign with the Panthers, totaling 5.5 sacks in 14 starts. The former No. 1 overall pick has 58 career sacks in 140 games played over 11 years.
The veteran's debut could come in Week 3 when the Cowboys (1-1) take on the Bears (0-2) in Chicago.
