It's curtains for Toby Gerhart.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Saturday that the Jacksonville Jaguars running back is being placed on season-ending injured reserve, per a source informed of the team's plans. The club later confirmed the move.
Battling a groin injury of late, Gerhart hasn't played a down since Week 7. With only 88 snaps all year, the power back has been invisible this season with just 67 combined yards off 23 touches.
Once an ill-chosen Making the Leap candidate, Gerhart was billed by the Jaguars as a featured back after signing a three-year, $10.5 million deal during the 2014 offseason. It went all wrong last year, though, with the former Vikings runner managing just 326 yards at 3.2 yards per tote. After drafting T.J. Yeldon, it became clear that Jacksonville was ready to move on from Gerhart.
He's set to earn an unguaranteed $3 million in 2016, leaving him as a likely candidate for release. Wherever he lands, Gerhart's days as a lead back are done.
