The Jacksonville Jaguars placed cornerback Scott Starks on season-ending injured reserve Saturday and were awarded fourth-year safety Anthony Smith off waivers from the St. Louis Rams.
Starks, who has a hamstring injury, played in five of the first seven games for the Jaguars this season and had seven tackles. The 2005 third-round draft pick has played in 54 career games and recorded 71 tackles and two interceptions.
Smith has played in 48 games with 14 starts for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Rams, with career totals of 110 tackles and four interceptions. Smith played in two games for the Rams this season after being claimed off waivers, finishing with four tackles, before he was waived on Nov. 5.
Smith originally was a 2006 third-round pick by Pittsburgh, where he played in 46 games over three seasons. He signed with the Green Bay Packers on March 6 and was released during final cuts before joining the Rams.
