The Tennessee Titans' slumping offense might have a bigger issue than Jake Locker's poor play.
Coach Ken Whisenhunt revealed Monday that Locker underwent an MRI on this right (throwing) wrist after having it bent under his body during Sunday's loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
The good news is the MRI showed limited structural damage, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoprt reported on Tuesday, via a source informed of the quarterback's condition.
Locker could hardly grip the ball by the end of the game, but there is a chance he will play through the wrist strain based on how he responds, per Rapoport.
The Titans won't know for sure until later in the week if Locker will be available to start in Week 4 at the Indianapolis Colts.
Although the Titans have averaged just 8.5 points over the past two games, Whisenhunt has made it clear that Locker will not be benched for competitive reasons.
"Jake is still our quarterback," Whisenhunt said Sunday evening, via TitanInsider. "One of the things that you asked me when I first got here was what would I do differently. One of the things was patience with the quarterback. Jake has to play better. Once again, we all have to play better."
As inconsistent as Locker has been, there's little reason to believe the offense would benefit from a quarterback change.
If the starter's wrist doesn't show signs of improvement by late in the week, Whisenhunt will have no choice but to turn to underwhelming backup Charlie Whitehurst.
