Jameel McClain activated by Balitmore Ravens

Jameel McClain is back for the Baltimore Ravens.

The team announced Saturday it has activated the sixth-year inside linebacker to the active 53-man roster. Tight end Billy Bajema was cut in a corresponding move. McClain is listed as probable to play Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

McClain spent the first six weeks of the regular season on the physically unable to perform list. He has been out of game action since last December, when he suffered a bruised spinal cord in a game against the Washington Redskins.

At the time, McClain was told by doctors that the injury would end his career. He eventually was given a more promising diagnosis and began his quest to get back on the field.

McClain was cleared for contact this week and made his practice debut Wednesday. The Ravens had three weeks to decide if they would take McClain off the PUP list, but they elected to activate him after he went through a week of practice without any problems.

McClain has been a starter for the Ravens each of the past three years. He had 79 tackles in 13 games last season before his injury. He should provide an instant lift to an insider linebacker position that's been thinned by injuries.
