Jarvis Landry: Dolphins will challenge Sherman, LOB

The Miami Dolphins head into a Week 1 tilt with the Seattle Seahawks with plenty of questions on offense under new head coach Adam Gase.

But fear of the Legion of Boom will not be one of the issues.

Pro Bowl receiver Jarvis Landry said the Dolphins wouldn't avoid throwing at All-World corner Richard Sherman.

"He's definitely a premiere corner in this league," Landry said, via ESPN.com. "He's definitely a guy we respect but we're definitely not going to shy away from. Just having an opportunity to compete with a guy like that is something that I know this offense and this receiving corps is looking forward to."

Here is where we will simply note the fact that in the last three years Adam Gase-coached offenses are 0-3 versus Seattle (including Super Bowl XLVIII), averaging 261.33 yards per game (to be fair, that includes last season's Jimmy Clausen-led punt-fest).

The Seahawks are primed to unleash the best secondary they've boasted since the original LOB rose to national acclaim. Coach Pete Carroll said this offseason that the return of Jeremy Lane -- an underrated move -- and DeShawn Shead give the LOB their "best flexibility" ever. Sherman noted that 2015 was a down season, but the Seattle secondary is hitting its "prime."

That's the type of defense that Landry wants to beat Sunday.

"For me, I want to win," Landry said of facing Sherman and the LOB. "I'm a competitor. Regardless of who the guy is, I take the field to win. Period."

The Dolphins' offense improved each week during the preseason as quarterback Ryan Tannehill got more comfortable in Gase's system. But opening in Seattle is a difficult way to begin a new era under an offensive coach.
