NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that Campbell has reached an agreement on a one-year deal with the Cincinnati Bengals, according to a source who has spoken to the player.
The move reunites the veteran quarterback with Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson, Campbell's former head coach with the Oakland Raiders.
Campbell spent last season with the Cleveland Browns, making eight starts (1-7) and finished with 11 touchdowns, eight interceptions, 2,015 passing yards and a 76.9 passer rating. Before Cleveland, Campbell spent time with the Chicago Bears (2012), Raiders (2010 to 2011) and Washington Redskins (2005 to 2009).
Campbell found success under Jackson in Oakland, posting a passer rating above 84.0 in both seasons and leading the Raiders to a 11-7 mark in his starts. A broken collarbone sustained midway through the 2011 season led to Jackson's fateful decision to acquire Carson Palmer in a trade from the Bengals.
Campbell is one of the league's better backup options and will certainly give coach Marvin Lewis a solid and non-threatening option behind Andy Dalton.
