Keeping it in the family is an NFL head-coaching tradition. The minute a coach gets a top job, he often hires his son or brother to join him on staff. If often works.
But what about the uncomfortable times when the move backfires?
Dallas Cowboys tight ends coach John Garrett has applied for the head-coaching job at the University of Delaware, according to Jeremy Fowler of CBS Sports. John's brother, Cowboys coach Jason Garrett, encouraged John to apply for the gig, according to the report.
It's not surprising John Garrett would look for a job elsewhere, but it sounds like he could be getting pushed out the door. ESPN previously reported John Garrett was looking for jobs around the NFL. Clarence Hill of The Fort Worth Star-Telegram wrote that John Garrett's days in Dallas likely are over, no matter what happens with the Delaware job.
"According to multiple sources, John Garrett was not well liked by other staffers at the team's Valley Ranch headquarters," Hill wrote. "There has also been a lack of tight end development behind Pro Bowler Jason Witten during his tenure."
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said it would be an "uncomfortable" offseason for those in Dallas, and that includes Jason Garrett. It doesn't get much more uncomfortable than having to part ways with your brother.
