The Jay Cutler-Brandon Marshall reunion was everything Chicago Bears fans dreamed of. The debut of the Indianapolis Colts' Andrew Luck, the No. 1 overall draft pick, left much to be desired. The Bears' new-look offense rolled to a 41-21 victory on a picturesque day in Chicago.
Here's what we learned at Soldier field:
» The preseason is a little different from the regular season. The Colts' rebuilding process seemed like it might go faster than expected after Luck looked like a veteran in preseason games. He completed 23 of 45 passes for 309 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions against the Bears. The promise is still there, but Luck resembled someone playing his first NFL game. His offensive line didn't help his cause.
» The Bears' offense is something to seriously be reckoned with. Cutler threw for 333 yards and two touchdowns. Matt Forte had 120 total yards and a touchdown. Marshall added nine receptions, 119 yards and a touchdown in his debut. Rookie Alshon Jeffery had 80 receiving yards and a touchdown. Michael Bush ran for 42 yards and two touchdowns. When the line blocked, the offense went up and down the field.
» Bears starting Pro Bowl cornerback Charles Tillman left the game in the first quarter with a leg injury and did not return. Colts seven-time Pro Bowl linebacker Dwight Freeney went down with an ankle sprain in the first quarter and did not return. The Colts' pass rush evaporated after Freeney left.
