Starting over isn't new for Jay Cutler. The 10th year pro has been through five offensive coordinators in his seven years with the Chicago Bears.
"Is it five?" Cutler asked when reminded by reporters Tuesday, via the Chicago Tribune. "That can't be good."
When you are the common denominator in those five changes, no, it's not a good look for the quarterback.
Adam Gase is lucky coordinator No. 5 as the Bears begin their voluntary minicamp under new coach John Fox's regime. Cutler said he's known Gase for a "long time" and some of the offense he knows and some is "completely foreign."
"I think that's what you notice when you walk in the building with those guys -- all the energy they bring," Cutler said of the new staff. "Innovative. Smart. It's a joy to work with these guys right now."
It was just a year ago when his former coach and play-caller Marc Trestman was getting praised for being an innovator and turning around the Bears' offense. In Chicago, with Cutler under center, every few years there is optimism a new coordinator will turn around the talented quarterback, until they are out looking for a new job.
"Fox has a reputation," Cutler said. "He knows how to win. They have a blueprint. I think it's a very talented team at this point and we're only going to add to it. I'm excited about where we're going."
It's a familiar chorus in the Windy City that the Bears' new brass hopes gets some new verses.
