As it turns out, Marcell Dareus wasn't the only member of the Buffalo Bills involved in Friday's racing incident.
Fellow defensive lineman Jerry Hughes confirmed to reporters after Wednesday's OTA session that he was behind the wheel of the black Camaro that police cited as traveling at a high rate of speed with a white Jaguar driven by Dareus.
"Was I there? Yes," Hughes said, per Joe Buscaglia of WGR-AM. "I was driving my car. I was on the street while (Dareus) was on the street driving his vehicle as well.
"Like I said, they won't let me speak on the facts. So, it's a legal matter that the Hamburg Police is working on right now. They won't let me say too much about it. The facts are the facts though, I will say that."
Dareus was arrested Friday and charged with reckless endangerment, reckless driving, participating in an illegal speed contest, as well as traffic violations, according to a Hamburg, N.Y. Police Department press release obtained by NFL Media. The high-speed duel ended when Dareus peeled off the road into a parking lot before striking a tree in front of a Mongolian Buffet restaurant.
Hughes, who avoided arrest, told The Buffalo News on Tuesday that Dareus would bounce back from his latest off-field incident.
"I can't really elaborate on Marcell's behalf, but I just know that when he gets back, he's going to be ready to play football and he's going to hit the field full speed and he's going to wreak havoc," Hughes said. "That's all that I can really speak on. Knowing him for going on a second year and knowing him as a player, I know he's going to come back full speed."
Bills coach Doug Marrone told reporters Tuesday that Dareus would sit out the remainder of OTAs before returning for mandatory minicamp.
