Derek Jeter and Peyton Manning have more in common than just having hosted "Saturday Night Live."
They also became -- over the course of legendary careers -- the faces of their respective franchises. The faces of their cities, really.
Jeter, 37, was drafted by the Yankees in 1992 and he's never left the organization. It's unlikely he ever will.
Most thought the same went for Peyton Manning. Things changed quickly in the past 12 months, culminating with Manning's release from the Colts on Wednesday.
"It's just weird," Jeter told WFAN-AM from the Yankees' spring training complex in Tampa. "You know, it always seems like some guys should be with one team their entire career."
Contract talks between Jeter and the Yankees got messy last year, the team even inviting Jeter to try to find a better deal elsewhere at one point. The bargaining was contentious, but Jeter never entertained another offer, eventually signing a lucrative multi-year deal to stay in pinstripes.
Manning and the Colts, on the other hand, were unable to avoid a split, with colts owner Jim Irsay calling the circumstances "too difficult to overcome." Manning will find himself in a new uniform this year, and it will look just as odd as Jeter in Oriole orange.
