Jets' Burress misses second straight day with lower back issue

It might not be enough to sound the alarms just yet, but New York Jets wide receiver Plaxico Burress missed a second straight day of practice Thursday.

Burress has been dealing with a stiff lower back, which caused him to sit out practice on Wednesday.

Burress said he expected to practice on Friday and be ready on Sunday.

"It feels good," Burress said, according to the team's official site. "I'm making progress. … I missed yesterday and today. I'll be out there tomorrow and be ready to go Sunday."

Jets coach Rex Ryantold reporters Thursday he thought Burress would play Sunday against the New England Patriots.

"I just feel confident he'll be ready to roll," Ryan said.

It seems to be a similar scenario to last week, when Burress took part in limited portions of two practices, was listed as questionable, but was able to play against the Buffalo Bills. Burress shook off the injury to catch a team-high five passes for 79 yards in the Week 9 win.

Jets safety Brodney Pool (knee) was less certain. Ryan said running back Joe McKnight (toe) would be re-evaluated Friday. Both Pool and McKnight missed practice Thursday.
