INDIANAPOLIS -- It has been said that deadlines will push the NFL's current labor negotiations along. For teams, some of those deadlines aren't far off.
The New York Jets are facing a July 1 deadline to apprise SUNY-Cortland, the site of their training camp the last two summers, of their plans for July and August. The team could have some wiggle room based on its relationship with the school, but the deadline does provide a framework for decision-making.
Even if the school did bend on the date, the Jets are considering options that include holding training camp at their team facility in Florham Park, N.J. this summer because of the unique circumstances created by the lockout.
The Jets have a raft of high-profile free agents -- Santonio Holmes, Braylon Edwards and Antonio Cromartie are the headliners -- and, as such, the team's ability to conduct business whenever the lockout ends will be vital. So the team has thought about how being in Cortland, nearly 200 miles from headquarters in upstate New York, will affect the process of re-signing its own free agents as well as hosting and signing others.
