Jets release wide receiver Davante Adams after no trade materializes

With no trade materializing, the New York Jets are releasing wide receiver Davante Adams, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported on Tuesday.

The move, officially announced by the team hours later, is another indication the Jets have moved on from their all-in approach the past two seasons with QB Aaron Rodgers and some of his allies.

Adams, 32, was set to have a $38.2 million salary-cap number in 2025 with no guaranteed money left on his deal, which made his release expected, especially after the Jets moved on from Rodgers.

The Jets traded a conditional third-round pick to the Las Vegas Raiders for Adams last October, hoping that the last-gasp move could spur the Jets following their 2-4 start. Adams did a lot of heavy lifting, catching 67 passes for 854 yards (12.7-yard average) and seven TDs in his 11 games in New York. But the move couldn't rescue the Jets from another lost season, as they finished 5-12.

Adams checks in at No. 10 on NFL.com's Top 101 free agents list, just ahead of Bills wide receiver Amari Cooper and is free to sign with a new team ahead of the start of the new leage year on March 12.

A three-time All-Pro and six-time Pro Bowler, Adams has totaled 957 receptions for 11,844 yards (12.4 average) and 103 TDs in 164 games (157 starts) over 12 NFL seasons with the Packers, Raiders and Jets.
