Jets retain outside linebackers coach Smith

New York Jets assistant coach Mike Smith has decided to remain with team instead of taking a more prominent job at the University of West Virginia.

Smith, who recently accepted the West Virginia assistant defensive coordinator job, said he was convinced by Rex Ryan and the Jets staff last week at the Pro Bowl in Hawaii to stay on the staff.

Smith has notified West Virginia that he won't be taking that job. He'll remain as the Jets' outside linebackers coach, a promotion that had earned at the end of the season.
