New York Jets receiver Mike Williams is ready to take the next step in his ramp-up to the 2024 season.
"I think next week I'm going to be doing some team (drills)," Williams said on Monday, via The Associated Press. "Just getting in the rhythm of doing things with the team and lining up and going through some plays."
The veteran wideout was activated from the physically unable to perform list on Aug. 7, earlier than initially anticipated. Since then, he's been participating in individual drills, getting his feet wet in the offense.
Williams added that he's feeling good following last year's early-season ACL tear that relegated him to just three games played. Health will remain key for the 29-year-old, who missed 19 games the past two seasons, including playoffs.
Getting back to team drills would provide Williams two full weeks of reps with Aaron Rodgers before the Jets kick off the season on Sept. 9 against the San Francisco 49ers in prime time. Getting those offseason reps in would be significant for a player who signed with a new team amid questions about whether he'd be ready for Week 1.
"I'm always excited," he said. "This is what we do. I mean, we play football. So whenever you get an opportunity to go out there, you're itching for it. So I'm excited for the opportunity to get in, get some reps with the QBs and see how far this thing goes."
