Jim Harbaugh: Beware of sources with 'forked tongue'

We've heard San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaughdeny rumors about the University of Texas coaching job before, but never quite like this.

"In Judge Judy's court, hearsay is not admissible evidence," Harbaugh said Thursday, via CSN Bay Area. "I think we can all agree that an unnamed source is hearsay. I see unnamed sources related to many of these topics. And it's my point that an unnamed source is hearsay. And in the court of public opinion, why would you give any of that credibility?"

And later: "Beware of unnamed sources. They speak with forked tongue."

Harbaugh's love of Judge Judy and use of creative imagery is one reason why we hope he never goes back to coaching in college.

Harbaugh insisted Thursday he "absolutely" wants to stay in San Francisco and downplayed the notion that he is at odds in any way with general manager Trent Baalke, who holds personnel control with the team.

NFL Media columnist Michael Silver reported last week that Harbaugh told his superiors he's staying with the 49ers, but he couldn't agree on a new deal last offseason during contract talks. 49ers CEO Jed York has spoken many times since about wanting to extend Harbaugh's contract.

We don't doubt that Harbaugh wants to stay, although he's never stayed in one coaching spot for too long. His contract talks will be fascinating to watch this offseason. Harbaugh will want to get paid, and another run to the Super Bowl would certainly help his bargaining power.
