Bengals' Joe Burrow (wrist) declares himself ready for Week 1 vs. Patriots

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow played one series in last week's preseason opener, leading a touchdown drive. This week, he worked in joint practices with the Chicago Bears.

The star QB won't play in Saturday's preseason game in the Windy City but declared himself ready for Week 1 regardless of whether he participates in joint sessions with the Indianapolis Colts next week.

"When game one comes, I'll be ready," Burrow said on Thursday, via the team's official website. "It doesn't matter if we have one or not. Another one is going to be nice, but I'll be ready."

The Bengals kick off the 2024 campaign against the New England Patriots on Sept. 8.

Burrow is coming off a wrist injury that ended his season in mid-November. He's participated in training camp practices, which has been a rarity throughout his career. The COVID-19 pandemic shortened his rookie offseason. He was rehabbing from knee surgery in 2021, underwent an appendectomy to open camp in 2022, and dealt with a calf injury in 2023.

"These are the reps I haven't had the last couple of years," Burrow said. "The more reps you get before the season, the better you'll be. … I'm happy where I'm at and moving in the right direction."

In four seasons, Burrow has shined despite never fully participating in camp. Perhaps the 2024 reps will help him hit the ground running this season. Of course, the key for Burrow isn't the start but rather staying healthy until the end.
