John Lott won't handle spotter duties at 2013 combine

It was Axl Rose who once taught us nothing lasts forever. We just never thought that unconquerable reality would tie back to John Lott and the NFL Scouting Combine.

And yet, here we are. PFT reported Tuesday that Lott -- the Arizona Cardinals' strength and conditioning coach -- will not serve as the spotter for the bench press at this month's combine. Lott had done the job for the past 16 years.

Brooks: Prospects in the crosshairs

Bucky Brooks identifies 10 draft prospects with a whole lot at stake in the upcoming NFL Scouting

Combine in Indy. **More ...**

The Cardinals said Lott will remain in Arizona to work with players who are rehabbing and training on their own. Last year, Lott came under some criticism from anonymous agents, who believed his high-octane approach was unnecessary and potentially harmful to prospects. It's unclear if that played a role in his exit from the event.

If you're unfamiliar with Lott, please watch the above video and try not to immediately run through a brick wall for the man. Then watch that "November Rain" video and try not to hold your wedding reception during a symbolic rainstorm.
