Johnson returns to practice as Lions prepare for Saints

Detroit Lions star receiver Calvin Johnson returned to practice on Thursday.

Johnson joined his teammates on the field for the first time this week ahead of Saturday night's NFC Wild Card Game at New Orleans. He sat out Wednesday's practice and has said he was resting an Achilles tendon, declining to say which one was holding him out of workouts.

New Orleans safety Roman Harper says Johnson didn't do a lot against the Saints in their 31-17 victory against Detroit last month. Johnson was limited to six catches for 69 yards and without a touchdown. In the other 15 games, Johnson had 90 receptions for 1,612 yards and 16 scores.

Safety Chris Harris (back) was held out on Thursday after he was listed as limited the previous day. Cornerback Aaron Berry (shoulder), safety Louis Delmas (knee), defensive tackle Nick Fairley (foot), cornerback Chris Houston (hand, knee), cornerback Alphonso Smith (foot) and running back Kevin Smith (ankle, knee) were limited for the second straight day.
