Even with Lovie Smithholding firm to Josh McCown as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback, it's becoming apparent that Mike Glennon will be under center against the Pittsburgh Steelerson Sunday.
McCown is expected to sit out Week 4, per the Tampa Bay Times, and perhaps even longer.
McCown met with the specialist Monday and will be re-evaluated in a week or two to determine whether surgery is the best course of action to repair a right thumb ligament, according to the Times.
If McCown manages to avoid surgery, there's still a good chance he will miss multiple games while the thumb heals on its own -- as NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported late last week.
Although McCown has yet to be officially ruled out for Sunday, it's telling that the Bucs worked outTerrelle Pryor on Monday. Another option is promoting Mike Kafka from the practice squad to back up Glennon this week.
Much like Kirk Cousins with the Redskins, Glennon can force the coaching staff to consider altering their quarterback plans if he plays well in the starter's absence.
