Julio Jones (turf toe) game-time decision vs. Rams

Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones is officially a game-time decision.

Coach Dan Quinn said as much Friday, noting that his best offensive player needs to test out his turf toe full-speed on the field before the game. The Falcons (7-5) are nearing must-win territory each weekend, and take on the Rams (4-8) in L.A.

While they might not need all hands on deck to take out the fledgling Rams, Atlanta is hoping to employ the services of the hardest-to-cover receiver in football. Despite a lingering case of turf toe, Jones put up 113 yards on seven catches last weekend against the Chiefs (a 29-28 loss).

For those unaware, turf toe is an awful nagging injury that typically keeps players out for at least a week. As a receiver, Jones is essentially having to cut, burst and plant on sprained toe ligaments on every play -- not ideal for a team hoping to have him for the stretch run. It would not be an incredible surprise to see Quinn play it safe.

That being said, we are in crunch time and Jones has been a trooper so far this season. He leads the league in yards (1,253) and catches of 20 or more yards (24). A matchup nightmare, he could be enough to divert Jeff Fisher's defense at 75 percent.

These are the types of decisions big-time coaches and big-time players make down the stretch with the right medical advice. What is more enticing? A less than 100 percent Julio Jones the rest of the way, or no Julio Jones in a week when they cannot afford to lose?
