Kellen Davis will sign contract with Cleveland Browns

It makes sense that Browns coach Rob Chudzinksi, a former tight end, is stocking up at the position in Cleveland.

Free-agent Kellen Davis will sign a one-year, $2 million contract with the Browns, a source with knowledge of the deal told NFL.com's Ian Rapoport on Friday.

It's far from a high-octane addition.

Davis was released by the Chicago Bears this month after a frustrating, 19-catch campaign marred by too many ugly drops. He figures to fulfill more of a blocking tight end role alongside the recently signed Gary Barnidge.

After Ben Watson signed with the New Orleans Saints, the Browns' only pass-catcher at the position with any promise is third-year pro Jordan Cameron. Chudzinksi's offense relies on dynamic tight end play, so who's going to catch the ball in Cleveland?

The current group doesn't offer much hope.
