Kendall Hunter signs one-year extension with 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers have done some business with running back Kendall Hunter.

The team announced Monday that Hunter has been signed to a one-year contract extension through the 2015 season. Hunter, 26, tore his ACL at the start of training camp and was placed on injured reserve in August.

The 49ers backfield could look very different a year from now. Frank Gore is in the final year of his contract and will turn 32 next May. Marcus Lattimore, the team's fourth-round pick in last year's draft, is contemplating retirement after experiencing soreness in his surgically repaired knee. Another back, LaMichael James, was granted his release in September.

The signing of Hunter is a move that provides a level of stability to a position that could soon become unsettled.
