Wide receiver is one of the more difficult positions for rookies to learn quickly in the NFL. Defenses are more complex and harder to read than they were in college, and cornerbacks are bigger, stronger and faster. That doesn't seem to be getting in the way of Tennessee Titans rookie Kendall Wright, however.
The 20th overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, Wright has been such a quick study that the team is having him learn two more positions in addition to the "X" position he had been learning, Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean reported Saturday.
"At some point he will get overloaded, which is normal for a player. But we see the things we saw before the draft, and we want to move him around and put him in some other spots," Titans offensive coordinator Chris Palmer told Wyatt. "He is a rookie and he is learning, but he is doing an excellent job. He has tremendous quickness, and he is learning the system."
Making an instant impact is nothing new to Wright, who caught 50 passes for 649 yards and five touchdowns during his freshman season at Baylor. In 50 career collegiate games, Wright caught 302 passes for 4,004 yards and 30 touchdowns. With Kenny Britt coming off a torn anterior cruciate ligament, the Titans are counting on Wright to produce this season. He hasn't been shy about wanting to learn more.
"I ask questions after every play, if I was doing something right or if I was doing something wrong," Wright said. "I ask everybody if I need to do something different. It makes it easier if you ask. If you hold it in, you will never know what to do."
