The Tennessee Titans wanted an answer regarding wide receiver Kenny Britt's status for the start of the season. It appears they got one before they had to cut their roster down to 53 men.
Britt will be suspended one game, a source with knowledge of the situation told NFL.com and NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport on Thursday. Britt is unlikely to appeal his suspension, Albert Breer reports, and the Titans believe he could use the extra week away to continue the rehab from his multiple knee surgeries.
The NFL had no comment at to Britt's status when reached by Around the League.
Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean first reported Britt's suspension.
Britt was arrested on suspicion of DUI in July. It was the latest in a string of incidents and arrests involving the police that have plagued Britt since coming out of college. Britt also has been battling an injured knee; he has undergone three knee surgeries since last October -- two on his right knee, one on his left -- and came off the physically unable to perform list Wednesday.
If Britt was not suspended for the opener, he only was expected to be healthy enough to play 10 to 15 snaps. This actually will give him another week to get healthy, although he will have to do it without the guidance of the Titans. (And without getting paid.)
The relatively short suspension will come as a relief to the Titans. When healthy, he's their most dynamic playmaker on offense. (Sorry, Chris Johnson.) Along with rookie Kendall Wright and tight end Jared Cook, Britt could help the Titans have a quietly explosive offense.
He just has to stay out of trouble, and out of the training room.
