Kent State coach Paul Haynes said on the weekly MAC teleconference that he expects Golden Flashes running back Dri Archer to play Saturday against Western Michigan.
Archer (5-feet-8, 175 pounds), a senior, hurt his ankle on Kent State's first drive of the season. He played briefly against LSU in Game 3, catching a pass for 7 yards, before re-injuring his ankle and missing last week's loss to Penn State.
Things we learned
From Stanford learning a lesson against ASU to Baylor's offensive onslaught, here are the things we learned from the fourth weekend of college football play. **More ...**
Archer is one of the most explosive players in the nation; he led the nation with 10 runs of 40-plus yards last season, per cfbstats.com. When healthy, he has excellent speed, quick feet and elusiveness. He ran for 1,429 yards and 16 TDs last season and also is a dangerous receiver and kick returner (three touchdowns on 16 returns last season). Archer scored 23 total touchdowns last season, setting a school single-season record, and finished fifth in the country with 184.1 all-purpose yards per game.
Saturday's contest against winless Western Michigan will be the third consecutive road game for the Golden Flashes, who are in the midst of a stretch that sees them play five road games in six weeks. A win is vital to any bowl hopes; Kent State reached the postseason for just the second time in school history last season.
