Kowalkowski, who spent 11 seasons on the Lions' o-line, dies at 65

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Longtime Lions offensive lineman Bob Kowalkowski died Thursday night at a hospital in suburban Detroit, the team said. He was 65.

Kowalkowski was a starting guard for most of his 11 seasons with the Lions after he was drafted out of Virginia in 1965. He was traded to the Cleveland Browns in 1977 and finished his career after playing four games for coach Bart Starr's Green Bay Packers that year.

Kowalkowski's wife, Judy, has worked in the Lions' front office since 1990. His son, Scott, signed with the Lions as a free agent in 1994 and played at linebacker and on special teams through 2001.

Funeral arrangements were pending.
