Dante Fowler Jr.'s season-ending ACL tear made big headlines over the weekend. Denver Broncos tight end Jeff Heuermansuffered a similar injury with less attention. Broncos coach Gary Kubiak, however, wishes he could have appropriated the injury from a player slated to play important role in his offense.
"Very tough. I wish that was me," Kubiak said, via the team's official website. "It was such an unfortunate situation, to just be running down the field and that happened. We're going to miss him. He was going to be a big part of what we're doing. But he's still going to be a big part of what we're doing."
Sadly for the coach, it's likely the tight end won't be the only player he loses due to injury throughout the course of the next eight months -- and none of those injuries will he be able to assume (at least not without some powerful Voodoo involved).
Heuerman, a third-round pick, was slated to play a key role in Kubiak's offense as a reserve tight end, expected to help make up for the loss of Julius Thomas.
The Broncos will move forward with veteran Owen Daniels and blocking tight end Virgil Green atop their depth chart.
