We've heard plentyfromMike Shanahan this week. On Thursday, it was Kyle Shanahan's turn to talk about the Washington Redskins' surprising quarterback shuffle.
The offensive coordinator told reporters he had "zero involvement" in the team's decision to sit Robert Griffin III for the remainder of the season as a health precaution.
"I'm pretty disappointed we don't get to play with him," Shanahan said, "but it is what is, and I'm going to play with the cards I've been dealt."
Kyle Shanahan said he had drawn up two different game plans Tuesday -- one for Griffin and one for Kirk Cousins -- until the team decided to put RGIII on the shelf. He added the decision to take Griffin out of the mix was frustrating, but one he understands from a big-picture perspective.
"I think they made a decision, 'What's the best for the future of the organization?'" he said. "And they don't want to happen to (Griffin) next year what happened this year. It's really, really tough when a guy -- especially in his situation -- misses an entire offseason and that's the way they feel about it."
It's the younger Shanahan's belief that finishing out the season would have been beneficial for Griffin.
"I think it will be good for Robert to get the reps, that's my opinion of it from 100 percent a football standpoint," Kyle said. "But I do understand they have concerns that I don't think about as much."
Shanahan's hardly on an island here. The Redskins' decision to sit a healthy franchise quarterback is certified outside-the-box thinking.
