Lance Briggs expects to play sooner than later.
The Chicago Bears linebacker was expected to miss up to six weeks with the shoulder injury he suffered against the Washington Redskins in Week 7, but Briggs said that timetable has been slashed in half.
"The way injuries go, the doctors said I'm supposed to be out four to six weeks," Briggs said on his weekly TV program, per CSN Chicago. "I feel more like I'll be out two to three (weeks). We'll meet somewhere in the middle."
The team hasn't weighed in, but the Bears would welcome a rapid return from their All-Pro linebacker. Until then, rookie Khaseem Greene will fill in for Briggs at the weakside spot alongside first-year middle linebacker Jon Bostic, who replaced the injured D.J. Williams.
Bostic is intriguing, but the defense fell to pieces against the Redskins, allowing 45 points and 499 total yards. Too much of that yardage came on passes into the flats and in spaces where Briggs would have helped slow down Washington. It doesn't get any easier Monday night against the Green Bay Packers, a team that knows a little something about carving up opponents.
