The Philadelphia Eagles will continue to play with a collection of new faces on offense when the Cincinnati Bengals come to town for "Thursday Night Football."
Eagles quarterback Michael Vick and running back LeSean McCoy have been ruled out with the concussion symptoms that have kept them off the grid for weeks, the team announced Wednesday.
Both players participated in non-contact drills Tuesday after passing their concussion tests the previous day, but neither has been cleared by the combination of an independent neurologist and a team doctor. Vick and McCoy won't play until that happens, and the Eagles are in no rush to put them back on the field, especially Vick.
The Eagles also will go without tight end Brent Celek because of the concussion he suffered during Sunday's win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Defensive tackle Mike Patterson has been ruled out on the heels of being hospitalized with viral pneumonia.
A troubling season for the 4-9 Eagles is likely to cost men their jobs, but we see signs of life in the play of rookie passer Nick Foles. He was outstanding against the Buccaneers, and Foles is shaping up as a possible quarterback of the future in Philadelphia. With Vick almost certainly on his way out, Foles is one bright spot embattled coach Andy Reid can point to as the Eagles' season slowly fades away.
