If you're Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham, the idea of a softer, kinder Ndamukong Suh does nothing for you.
Cunningham -- somewhat of an intense figure himself -- isn't in the business of tempering Suh's knack for blowing up quarterbacks. He also holds no desire to theorize on the defensive lineman's reputation in the wake of a two-game suspension for stomping on the arm of a Packers offensive lineman.
"Well, I can't defend it," Cunningham told the Detroit Free Press on Friday. "I'm sure that the organization's in charge of that. I coach him, and I love him, and I'll never change on that. He's a great man, and I appreciate the ability I have to coach him."
The suspension will force Suh to miss Sunday's tilt against the Saints and next week's meeting with the Vikings. With Detroit fighting for a playoff spot, Cunningham is wearing blinders anyways.
"My concentration is on the Saints, and all of it's on the Saints," he said, while admitting that he's periodically stepped away to text back and forth with Suh, noting that the behemoth went out of his way to wish Cunningham's wife a happy Thanksgiving.
See, friends, he's not so mean.
