Detroit Lions defensive tackle Nick Fairley was arrested on charges of second-degree possession of marijuana Tuesday in Alabama, according to the Mobile Press-Register.

Police told the newspaper they were called to a Mobile neighborhood after residents raised concerns about a speeding car around 12:30 p.m. local time. When police stopped the car, they discovered Fairley in the driver's seat and allegedly saw that he had marijuana.
Citing records at the Mobile County Metro Jail, the newspaper reported Fairley was charged with second-degree possession of marijuana -- a misdemeanor -- and held on $1,000 bail.
Fairley, an Auburn product, was the Lions' first-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. Fairley was dogged by injury trouble, playing in 10 games. He recorded 15 tackles and one sack.
Fairley is the second Lions player to run into legal trouble over marijuana possession; running back Mikel Leshoure must make a court appearance in Michigan this week after also being cited for possession.
The Lions issued a statement in which they said they were "aware of the incident," according to the team's official website.
"We hold all of our players to a high standard of behavior and the recent charges against Nick and Mikel Leshoure are not consistent with those standards," the statement read. "We are extremely disappointed."
"We will continue to gather information and will have further comment at the appropriate time," it added.
