Detroit Lions running back Kevin Smith injured his right shoulder and walked off the field during the third quarter of Sunday's 19-14 victory over the Washington Redskins.
Smith was hurt on a run and went to the sideline, trying not to move his right arm. After being evaluated on the bench by the training staff, Smith went toward the locker room. He didn't return and finished the game with 101 rushing yards.
Lions coach Jim Schwartz said he didn't know how serious Smith's injury was, adding the running back would be evaluated Monday.
Lions linebacker Ernie Sims was inactive for the game because of an injured right shoulder. It marked the first time that Sims missed a game in his four-year NFL career.
DeAndre Levy started in Sims' place, putting five rookies in the starting lineup for Detroit, which snapped its 19-game losing streak by beating Washington.
The Lions drafted Sims out of Florida State with the ninth overall pick in 2006. He is the only player on Detroit's active roster whom former general manager Matt Millen drafted in a five-year stretch from 2002 to 2006.
