Lions' Suh named sixth most charitable celebrity of 2011

Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has had a trying year, but he closes out 2011 with some positive recognition.

Suh was named the sixth most-charitable celebrity, and the most charitable athlete, of 2011 by The Giving Fund, a nonprofit organization that provides philanthropic management and consulting to the sports and entertainment industries. The list was compiled off public records of donations.

Suh gave $2.6 million to the University of Nebraska, his alma mater. The athletic department received $2 million, and another $600,000 went to the school's engineering program to endow a scholarship.

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning was the only other NFL player on the list. He and his wife Abby ranked as the 18th most charitable celebrities. They gave $1 million to the University of Mississippi's Ole Miss Opportunity Scholarship, which allows prospective students with low family incomes to attend the school.
