Fines and scrutiny won't deter Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh from playing his trademark aggressive style.
Last year's NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year wrote Wednesday in a blog post on the team's website, "I'm here to cause problems and meet your quarterback."
"I'm not a talker on the field, but if you say something to me, I may say something back to you or I may ignore you," Suh wrote. "It's funny because a lot of guys usually come up and say something to me like right before, something like 'Have a good game,' or whatever, and I just ignore it. I'm not here to meet friends."
Suh has been frequently criticized since he entered the league for his physical play. The NFL fined Suh $20,000 this preseason for a hit leveled against Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton. Suh was fined twice last year for a hit on Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler during the regular season and a hit on Cleveland Browns quarterback Jake Delhomme during the preseason.
"I'll consider myself a dirty player when my mom calls me a dirty player," Suh told the Associated Press in August following a scuffle with New England Patriots guard Logan Mankins.
Suh's insistence on retaining his aggressive approach is nothing new.
"Last year, we earned respect, but this year we want fear," Suh told a CBS Sports reporter during the preseason game against the Patriots. "We want quarterbacks to fear us, and we want offensive lines to fear us."
Suh and the Lions open against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sept. 11.
