ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- The Detroit Lions worked out quarterback Daunte Culpepper and liked how he looked.
"He moved around good," Lions coach Rod Marinelli said Wednesday. "Good feet and all those things.
"We looked at him and visited with him and we'll see how things work out."
An e-mail seeking comment was sent to Culpepper, who acts as his own agent. He was a three-time Pro Bowler for the Minnesota Vikings, but a knee injury led to him being a lackluster player for the Miami Dolphins and Oakland Raiders.
The Lions worked out Culpepper and some free agent safeties at their practice facility on Tuesday, just as they did the previous week with quarterback Tim Rattay.
"We're open to all those guys," Marinelli said when asked if the team is still talking to Culpepper.
Chiefs coach Herm Edwards said Monday that Culpepper would not even come to Kansas City for an interview.
The winless Lions put quarterback Jon Kitna on injured reserve earlier this season and have started Dan Orlovsky the past three games. Drew Stanton and Drew Henson are also on the roster.
Culpepper announced plans to retire in early September after being frustrated over not finding work in the NFL, but has acknowledged he's considering a return to the league.
He completed 64 percent of his passes, threw 142 touchdowns and ran for 33 scores over nine seasons.
The 31-year-old Culpepper was at his best in 2004 with career highs in yards (4,717), touchdowns (39) and passer rating (110.9).
"He's been a very good player in this league," Marinelli said. "And, he's young,"
A major injury to his right knee in October 2005 ended his career with the Vikings and he has struggled to recover from it.
