Who is this year's Mr. Irrelevant?
With the 256th and final pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Houston Texans selected Memphis free safety Lonnie Ballentine.
NFL Media's Nolan Nawrocki calls Ballentine a long-limbed, rangy back-half defender with intriguing straight-line speed, range and leaping ability to compete for a job as a backup safety and special-teams performer.
Ballentine inherits the Mr. Irrelevant crown from former South Carolina tight end Justice Cunningham, who was selected as last year's final pick by the Indianapolis Colts. Cunningham was unable to stick with the Colts, but managed to catch on with the St. Louis Rams in December.
As per tradition, Ballentine will be invited to be the guest of honor for a week-long Mr. Irrelevant celebration in Newport Beach, California, this summer. Ballentine will be awarded The Lowsman Trophy at a dinner banquet.
Paul Salata, the Mr. Irrelevant founder who's attended 38 NFL drafts, is on "injured reserve" and was unable to announce the final pick this year. In his place was his daughter, Melanie, who handed Ballentine the last ticket to the National Football League.
