We're only a month into 2016, but the dab of the year might be a done deal.
At the very least, former Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz put forth a strong candidate with the dab he performed Wednesday during his appearance at Michigan's signing day event after some prodding from Wolverines coach Jim Harbaugh. No, his form is far from perfect -- it seems he didn't know what a dab was until a few seconds before he dabbed -- but he gets an A for effort.
Note the smooth transition into the Heisman pose at the end. Well done, coach.
The crowd approved, and it was one of the highlights from the star-studded event. New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, former Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter and pro-wrestling legend Ric Flair were among those on hand for the celebration in honor of Michigan's 2016 recruiting class.
Holtz's dab was inspired by a good cause -- he was asked by Harbaugh to do it in honor of Chad Carr, the grandson of former Wolverines coach Lloyd Carr. Chad passed away in November at the age of 5 after a 15-month battle with brain cancer. Michigan encouraged donations to the ChadTough Foundation in lieu of charging for tickets to the signing-day event.
