The rebuild is real in East Rutherford.
The new league year is still five days away and the New York Jets have already washed their hands of roughly $46 million in cap space in the form of offloaded aging veterans: Nick Mangold, Darrelle Revis, Brandon Marshall, Ryan Clady, Breno Giacomini, Nick Folk and Erin Henderson.
But Gang Green's unorthodox offseason won't stop at notable cuts. Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan told reporters on Friday that the team will be shopping every one of its draft picks as well, including the sixth selection.
"Every draft I've been in I've always wanted to acquire more picks," Maccagnan explained. "I think the one thing for ourselves, we'd like to move back and acquire more picks in this draft if possible.
"We're open for business in every round. If someone wants to move up in any particular round, call us up."
Heading into 2017, New York has a lot of holes on its roster, some created from mismanagement and poor drafting (quarterback) and some developed from underwhelming contracts (cornerback).
The Jets brass have clearly recognized their failing formula in the offseason and have chosen to, instead of delay the inevitable, embrace a total reconstruction of the roster, purge the training facility of all expensive Rex Ryan holdovers and build through the draft.
As Maccagnan implied, everything the Jets currently hold dear, including their first pick in the draft, is available at a price. New York holds seven draft picks this year, including four in the first three rounds.
If Gang Green doesn't want to use its No. 6 pick to reach for a quarterback or offensive lineman, then the organization will be comfortable trading down to the mid-to-late first round and collecting mid-round selections.
